ELZIE E. SIMPSON - Elzie E. Simpson, son of the late George and Rosia Simpson, was born Dec. 13, 1898 at the Irish Wilderness and was a well known pioneer resident of Oregon County. Elzie departed this life Sept. 25, 1994 at MO Baptist Hospital in St. Louis at the age of 95 years.

He was united in marriage to Pearl Watson Oct. 6, 1918 who preceded him in death March 12, 1960. He was then married to Susie Watson May 3, 1961 who also preceded him in death Feb. 7, 1983. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 7 brothers, 2 grandchildren, 1 son-in-law and 2 step-daughters. Survivors include 5 daughters, Mabel Martin and husband George of Springfield, MO, Violet Johnson of Alton, MO, Eula Bowerman and husband Eugene of Barnhart, MO, Eunice Stogsdill and husband Hugh of Bourban, MO, Daisy Brewer and husband Keith of Pottersville, MO; 14 grandchildren, numerous step-grand-children; great grandchildren; great great-grand-children; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was ordained to preach the gospel on May 29, 1931 at the Shiloh Freewill Baptist Church near Alton and was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Freewill Baptist Church of Alton at the time of his death. He was a loving father, grandfather, uncle and friend. His great faithful-ness to the lord and his ministry was a great example for all who knew him. Funeral services were held Sept. 27, at the Clary Chapel with Bro. Grover Pingleton, Bro. David Honeycutt, Bro. Virgil Blankenship and Bro. Harold Ogden officiating. Interment was in the Smyrna Cemetery under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Alton, MO.
