SIMPSON, James V. - Winona, MO

        James Venton Simpson, 54, Winona, died of an apparent heart attack at 8:55 p.m. Wednesday at his home. Mr. Simpson was a coordinator of the Manpower program for the Economic Opportunity Development Office headquartered at Winona.
        He was born May 1, 1927, in the Wilderness area in Oregon County and had lived at Winona for 33 years. He was a former Winona city alderman. He formerly played professional baseball in the Dodgers minor league system. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Christian Church at Winona.
        On December 27, 1949 he married Muriel Norton at Salem, Arkansas. She survives.
        Also surviving are three sons, James Simpson and Mark Simpson, both of Winona, and David Simpson of St. Charles; one daughter, Carol Roberts, of Winona; one sister, Mabel Finch of St. Charles; and six grandchildren.
        Services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday at McSpadden Funeral Home at Van Buren. The Rev. Dean Stoops will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery at Winona. Visitation was scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
