LEWIS SIMPSON - Lewis A. W. Simpson, a lifelong resident of Alton, son of the late Wright and Mary E. Sloan Simpson, was born Sept. 10, 1902, on the farm where he resided, and died Jan. 9, 1989, in the home near Alton, at the age of 86 years, 3 months, and 29 days.  He was a member of Carpenter's Local Union 978, a member of the Mo. House of Representatives in the 69th and 70th General Assemblies 1957 through 1960.  Also he was a member of the Oregon County Court, Second District during the years 1969-70-71-72, and 75.  He was united in marriage to Ella Blankenship on Dec. 21, 1927, near Alton, and to this union 3 children were born.  Survivors include his wife, Ella, of the home; 2 daughters, Louella Cox of West Plains, and Linda Jane Doss of St. Louis; 1 son, Nelson G. Simpson of Alton; 3 grandchildren, Mary Jo Verrengia of Miami, FL, Lewis M. Simpson of Granite City, IL., and Daryl E. Simpson of Pan River Naval Air Test Center, Maryland; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Gerusha Hopper and Ruth Florea; 1 brother, Sol Simpson; 3 half brothers, Bud Simpson, Thomas Simpson, and Lemuel Simpson; 6 half-sisters, Nancy Bailey, Joey Ollar, Sally Brawley, Betty Turner, Esther Burkhead, and Virgie Wiggs.  Funeral services were held Thurs., Jan 12, 1989 at 2 p.m. in Memorial Chapel of Clary Funeral Home with Lester Wiggs officiating. Pallbearers were Dallas Ollar, Warren T. Simpson, Carl Sisco, Gene Boze, Howard Crews, and Gene Simpson.  Burial was in Bailey Cemetery under direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Alton.  In lieu of flowers the family asked that contributions be made to the Bailey Cemetery Trust Fund in care of Gene Boze or Curtis Hopper.
